AI Chip Startup Etched Raises $300M in Series C Funding Round

Etched, a startup in the AI chip industry, has successfully closed a $300 million Series C funding round at a $10.3 billion valuation. The funding round was led by Sequoia, with participation from Andreessen Horowitz, SK Hynix, Jane Street, and Diffusion Capital, alongside other previous investors. Notable backers of the company include prominent figures like Peter Thiel, Andrej Karpathy, Dylan Field, and Amjad Masad.
The latest valuation marks a significant increase from the company's previous $5 billion valuation in December. Etched recently announced the successful manufacturing of its homegrown chips, with the first full systems undergoing testing by clients and $1 billion worth of orders already booked. The startup's focus on designing AI-specific chips is garnering attention despite initial skepticism. Etched has developed two new components to accelerate the inference process, and the company is currently in the process of scaling up its operations.
The founders, who famously dropped out of Harvard to launch the startup, have faced numerous challenges and skeptics along the way, but their perseverance has led to significant growth and development. Etched's journey from humble beginnings to its current status as an industry player showcases the potential of determination and relentless effort in the tech space.
