Anthropic, an artificial intelligence startup, has completed a $13 billion funding round, resulting in a post-money valuation of $183 billion. This valuation is approximately three times the value of its previous raise in March. Iconiq, Fidelity Management & Research Co., and Lightspeed Venture Partners led the latest funding round, with other investors such as Altimeter, General Catalyst, and Coatue also participating.

According to Anthropic's finance chief Krishna Rao, the funding reflects investors' strong confidence in the company's financial performance and its collaborative efforts to sustain remarkable growth. The startup's valuation has soared since the introduction of its AI assistant Claude in March 2023.

Founded by former OpenAI research executives, including CEO Dario Amodei, Anthropic competes fiercely with OpenAI in the AI market. OpenAI, known for its AI chatbot ChatGPT, is reportedly planning a secondary sale that could value the company at about $500 billion. Anthropic's run-rate revenue has surged to over $5 billion, up from approximately $1 billion earlier in the year, with a customer base of over 300,000 businesses. The fresh capital will be utilized by Anthropic to enhance safety research, cater to increasing enterprise demand, and facilitate global expansion.
