Anysphere, the company behind the popular Cursor application, has reportedly secured a $900 million funding round with a $9 billion valuation. Thrive Capital led the round, with participation from Andreessen Horowitz and Accel. This funding comes just months after Anysphere's $105 million Series B, also led by Thrive Capital, which valued the company at $2.6 billion.

The company, founded in 2022, has now raised a total of $1.1 billion. The rise of artificial intelligence-powered coding has attracted significant investor interest, with large enterprises adopting the technology to streamline developer workflows. This trend has also sparked M&A activity, with reports of OpenAI in talks to acquire AI-assisted coding tool Windsurf for $3 billion.

OpenAI was previously in discussions to acquire Anysphere. The surge of investment in AI is evident in Crunchbase's global funding report, which highlights AI as the leading sector for venture funding in the first quarter, attracting $59.6 billion in investments. This marks the strongest quarter for AI funding, with a remarkable 53% of global funding dedicated to the AI sector alone.
