Bluecore Energy has announced the successful closure of a $50 million seed funding round, marking an oversubscribed investment following a $10 million pre-seed round. The company, founded earlier this year by Kofi Asante, specializes in developing small nuclear reactors (SMRs) on floating barges to produce clean energy for ports and nearby infrastructure. This innovative approach enables the transportation of energy to areas in need, potentially extending clean power to underserved communities.

Asante highlighted the safety and mobility of their portable technology, drawing inspiration from the Navy's longstanding use of similar systems. Notably, many pre-seed investors, such as Slauson & Co., Harlem Capital, and Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen, doubled down on their investment, while new support came from Collab Capital, HartBeat Ventures, and prominent angel investors. Silverton Partners led the seed round, which concluded within eight weeks.

Bluecore Energy, headquartered at the Port of Long Beach, has already launched floating barges and forged partnerships with key regulatory bodies. The company is currently undergoing product design review with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the U.S. Coast Guard, a crucial step towards certification of its floating nuclear power plant. The fresh capital will be allocated to product development, regulatory processes, nuclear fuel procurement, and team expansion. Asante identified supply chain management as a significant challenge, aiming to match consumer demand by securing essential hardware for portable electricity infrastructure.

Bluecore Energy has received interest from various ports, AI data centers, and communities seeking sustainable energy solutions. With a team boasting experience from SpaceX, Rivian, and Toyota, the company is strategically approaching supply chain management. Asante emphasized the fundamental mission to democratize access to clean energy, citing the belief that clean energy and water should be basic human rights.
