Colossal Biosciences Secures $200M in Series C Financing for De-Extinction Projects

Colossal Biosciences, a pioneer in de-extinction technology, has recently raised $200 million in Series C financing from TWG Global, a conglomerate with investments in technology/AI, financial services, private lending, and sports and media. The funding, jointly led by Mark Walter and Thomas Tull, brings the total funding raised by Colossal to $435 million since its launch in September 2021, resulting in a valuation of $10.2 billion for the company. 

The capital infusion will support the advancement of genetic engineering technologies and the development of innovative software, wetware, and hardware solutions with applications beyond de-extinction, including species preservation and human healthcare. The company, which collaborates with labs across Boston, Dallas, and Melbourne, Australia, is making significant strides in biology, with a focus on genetic mapping, developmental pathways, and genome engineering.

Notably, Colossal's de-extinction projects for the woolly mammoth, thylacine, and dodo have made significant progress in genomic research, stem cell generation, and genome engineering, setting the stage for potential breakthroughs in species restoration.

In addition to its internal projects, Colossal actively supports global conservation initiatives through partnerships with organizations like Re:wild, Save The Elephants, Biorescue, and Birdlife International.
