ComfyUI, a startup enabling creators to manage image, video, and audio outputs from diffusion models through a node-based workflow, has secured a $30 million funding round, valuing the company at $500 million. The funding was led by Craft Ventures, with participation from Pace Capital, Chemistry, and TruArrow.

Originally initiated as an open source project in 2023, ComfyUI aimed to address the limitations of early diffusion models, such as Midjourney and OpenAI’s DALL-E. To overcome these challenges, the founders developed a modular framework that provides detailed control over each stage of the generation process. Following substantial adoption by creative professionals, ComfyUI transitioned into a formal startup.

In a previous funding round, the company raised $19 million in Series A financing from investors including Chemistry Ventures, Cursor Capital, and Guillermo Rauch, founder of Vercel. The platform's node-based interface allows users to interconnect specific components of the generation process, granting complete authority over the output quality. With over 4 million users, ComfyUI is utilized by professionals in visual effects, animation, advertising, and industrial design, with some listing “ComfyUI artist or engineer” as their job title.

Despite advancements in video and image foundational models, ComfyUI remains crucial due to its unique level of precision. CEO Yoland Yan predicts ongoing high demand for ComfyUI, emphasizing the importance of a human-in-the-loop approach as AI becomes more prevalent. ComfyUI's competitors include Weavy, a startup acquired by Figma last year.
