Consano Bio Secures Oversubscribed Financing to Drive Phase 1 Trials for C-1101 in Chronic Sciatica

Consano Bio, Inc., a clinical-stage biotech focused on multi-protein biologics for orthopedic pain, announced the completion of an oversubscribed financing that exceeded its $15 million target. The new funding brings total raised to more than $45 million since the company’s inception, supported by a syndicate of accredited private investors. Proceeds will fund the completion of the ongoing randomized, double-blind Phase 1 trial of C-1101 (C-1101-101, NCT07264270) and advance the development of the company’s science base and intellectual property for C-1101 and additional assets.
The Phase 1 study is evaluating C-1101 in patients with chronic lumbosacral radiculopathy (LSR), commonly known as chronic sciatica, and is enrolling in the United States and Australia with enrollment expected to wrap up in early 2027. Clinical data from this trial are anticipated in the first half of 2027 to guide further development. LSR is a leading subset of low back pain, which accounts for substantial morbidity and health care costs in the U.S. and contributes to opioid use.
Notably, there are currently no FDA-approved pharmaceutical treatments for chronic sciatica. In August 2026, the FDA granted C-1101 Fast Track designation for LSR. Andrew Hall, Chief Executive Officer of Consano Bio, described C-1101 as a first-in-class disease-modifying biologic intended to activate tissue repair and reduce pain by delivering a consortium of cytokines, growth factors, and matrix proteins directly to the injury site via an epidural injection. He noted that LSR is the starting point for what could be a broader program addressing multiple orthopedic conditions. The company emphasizes that C-1101 represents a novel therapeutic category designed to modulate inflammation and promote healing at the site of nerve injury. The current Phase 1 trial, conducted at sites in Australia and the U.S., seeks to determine safety and preliminary efficacy, with plans to inform subsequent development steps.
Consano Bio also outlined its broader mission to transform the treatment landscape for painful orthopedic conditions through multi-protein biologics, supported by its Greater Boston presence. The trial is part of a broader effort to address chronic pain conditions that contribute to disability and high health care costs, and the company is positioning C-1101 as a potential foundational therapy in this arena.
