Delegance Brokerage Lands $3.1 Million Pre-Seed to Redefine Commercial Insurance Fees with AI

New York, Oct. 20, 2026 — Delegance Brokerage, an AI-native commercial insurance brokerage aiming to disrupt the century-old commission-based model, announced a $3.1 million pre-seed round led by Grit Capital Partners, with participation from Core VC, Gilgamesh Ventures, and Outside VC. The funding follows Delegance’s launch of its brokerage operations and comes as the company positions itself as a transparent, tech-driven alternative to traditional brokers that typically collect 15%–25% commissions. Delegance’s leadership views the conventional model as unnecessarily burdensome, predicated on paperwork rather than speed, and believes software can reclaim the value currently spent on administrative tasks.
Delegance operates as a licensed broker across 51 jurisdictions and has direct appointments with 25 insurance carriers, including Chubb, Travelers, and The Hartford. The company has already secured more than $26 million in premium commitments for 2026, signaling strong early demand for an AI-assisted, cost-efficient approach to commercial coverage. The business model centers on a flat, disclosed 5% fee, replacing the traditional, opaque commission structure. The shift is designed to lower overall insurance costs by 10%–20% on typical placements while preserving access to the same admitted carriers that mid-size and larger accounts rely on. CEO Alexander Ledbetter, whose experience at AXA XL informed the concept, described a decade-long renewal pattern in which a single large policy would renew year after year with a broker collecting a 20% commission annually, even though coverage remained largely unchanged. “That commission paid for paperwork, and the paperwork never got faster,” Ledbetter explained. “I taught myself to code so software could perform that work. The business should keep the money the paperwork used to cost.” This realization underpins Delegance’s emphasis on automation, instant quoting for many standard risk profiles, and streamlined policy servicing.
Delegance’s platform allows clients to upload existing policies or answer a short questionnaire to receive quotes. The company supports more than 4,000 business classifications and over 36 coverage types, including general liability, workers’ compensation, property, commercial auto, cyber, professional liability, and directors and officers Insurance. While many standard classifications qualify for instant quotes, more complex, specialty, and excess risks are routed to appropriate markets via wholesale partners. Beyond placement, Delegance automates ongoing servicing: clients can obtain certificates of insurance in seconds, request endorsements or policy changes, file and track claims, and receive proactive renewal analyses through a single account. An AI agent named Orin answers coverage questions by referencing clients’ existing policies through the company’s online portal, email, phone, or chat. While automation handles routine tasks, licensed brokers remain responsible for intricate placements, claims, and critical coverage decisions. The company’s pricing model—an explicit 5% fee—aims to reduce total insurance expenditures while preserving carrier access. Delegance asserts that its approach lowers costs for typical placements without compromising policy quality or service levels. This combination of cost transparency, AI-assisted servicing, and broad carrier access positions Delegance as a potential disruptor in the commercial insurance landscape.
Delegance is serving a broad range of industries, including construction, skilled trades, commercial real estate, ecommerce, healthcare practices, and professional services. Private equity firms also leverage Delegance to centralize insurance management across portfolios, including master programs for multi-property assets. For example, one 11-property real estate portfolio valued at over $100 million in insured exposure is now managed under a single program. Delegance also partners with banks and software platforms that refer commercial insurance needs. Looking ahead, Delegance intends to use the new funding to expand its licensed broker and engineering teams and to strengthen partnerships with banks, private equity firms, and software platforms. The company continues to scale its operations and broaden its footprint across jurisdictions, carrier relationships, and policy types. Delegance Brokerage, headquartered in New York, offers commercial insurance quotes, placements, and servicing via web, mobile app, email, phone, chat, and API. The firm is licensed in 51 jurisdictions and has direct appointments with 25 carriers.
