Different Launches AI-Driven Demand-Gen Engine for Lean Marketing Teams, Raises $48M Seed

San Francisco — Different, a startup co-founded by ThoughtSpot and Nutanix veteran Ajeet Singh, emerged from stealth to unveil an AI-powered marketing system designed to run end-to-end demand generation for lean teams. The company closed a $48 million seed round led by General Catalyst, with participation from Lightspeed Venture Partners and other investors, to accelerate product development and go-to-market efforts.
Different targets a perennial challenge in marketing: campaigns often require a sizable staff to coordinate strategy, creative, channel placements, optimization, and measurement across multiple tools. The new platform aims to replace fragmented workflows with a single closed-loop system that plans, launches, monitors, and optimizes campaigns across channels while personalizing messaging to individual buyers. Ajeet Singh, who previously co-founded ThoughtSpot, says the goal is simple: empower a marketing team of five to perform the work typically done by a team of 50.
The founders—Singh as CEO, Abhishek Pani as Chief Product Officer, and Abhinav Yajurvedi as Chief Technology Officer—built Different around three key insights gleaned from their experiences at major tech and con/sumer brands. The system is designed to own the strategy while translating it into campaigns, and it continuously learns to shift spend toward the most effective tactics. Unlike generic large-language models, standalone tools, or outsourcing agencies, Different executes a full campaign lifecycle within one integrated loop.
It plans campaigns, generates ads, emails, and landing pages, and provides an answer engine optimization (AEO) layer that monitors results, recommends content, and adapts in real time. The platform maintains a shared memory of a company’s strategy, brand voice, and historical performance, and it propagates lessons across channels and future efforts. Marketers still review and approve all outputs before launch to maintain control and brand integrity. Early customer outcomes illustrate the platform’s potential. Motif, a three-person marketing team, expanded from running a single campaign to managing more than a dozen across four channels in just one month.
Descope used Different to prune 60% of its wasted paid spend by targeting better-fit accounts, which raised meeting rates for its sales team. Descope’s head of marketing, Abhi Iyer, notes that Different enables a much higher cadence of programs with a smaller team: two people can manage as many as ten programs simultaneously, each delivering timely, relevant messages to the right buyers. General Catalyst’s Hemant Taneja says the seed round reflects confidence in a big-market AI opportunity: transforming how companies market and allocate budget. Other investors in the round include Together Fund, Haystack Ventures, MXV Capital, and Firebolt Ventures.
Different plans to deploy the new capital to scale engineering and broaden its go-to-market efforts as it expands beyond initial customers and industries. Different positions itself as the marketing system that orchestrates, personalizes, and optimizes B2B demand generation across channels, delivering faster time-to-value for lean marketing teams. The company was founded by Singh, Pani, and Yajurvedi and is headquartered in San Francisco. Its product is now available to customers at different.ai. For communications, the company has engaged Audrey Jones of Audrey Jones Communications.
