Dyna Robotics Secures $120 Million Series A Funding for Breakthrough AI-Powered Robots

Dyna Robotics, a company that specializes in general-purpose robots powered by its proprietary embodied AI foundation model, has successfully closed a $120 million Series A funding round. The investment was led by Robostrategy, CRV, and First Round Capital, with significant contributions from Salesforce Ventures, NVentures, the Amazon Industrial Innovation Fund, Samsung Next, and LG Technology Ventures. Dyna intends to utilize the funding to expand its research and engineering team and expedite the development of its next-generation foundation model. The company aims to deliver high-performance general-purpose robots for various commercial applications.
In its debut year, Dyna introduced the DYNA-1 foundation model, achieving an impressive 99+% success rate in continuous 24-hour operations. The company also demonstrated the commercial viability of its technology through successful customer deployments in diverse industries. Dyna's rapid progress includes the deployment of its DYNA-1 model, which has enabled its robots to operate for sixteen hours a day in establishments such as hotels, restaurants, laundromats, and gyms. The company's groundbreaking achievement lies in developing a single-weight, general-purpose foundation model capable of performing diverse tasks at a commercial scale across different environments.
Co-founder and CEO Lindon Gao highlighted the significance of a strong foundation model in facilitating scalable distribution, emphasizing that their robots continuously improve with each deployment, thus generating high-quality data. Meanwhile, co-founder Jason Ma, a former DeepMind research scientist, stressed the importance of designing foundation models that achieve both generalization and performance, enabling rapid online learning from on-the-job experience. The company's founders, Gao and York Yang, leveraged their experience in building AI-powered smart carts for retailers through their previous venture, Caper AI, which was sold for $350 million in 2021.
With their combined expertise and a dedicated research team, they strive to develop embodied AI robots that are immediately beneficial for businesses. The company's ambitious goal is to achieve physical AGI, recognizing the current convergence of AI breakthroughs, accelerated hardware development, and escalating labor demand as a unique opportunity.
Noteworthy comments from investors such as RoboStrategy, CRV, and First Round Capital laud Dyna Robotics for its mission to bridge research excellence with real-world applications while delivering unprecedented results in embodied AI. Dyna Robotics has firmly positioned itself at the forefront of the physical AGI revolution, backed by substantial investments and a strong vision for the future of AI-powered robotics.
