Elon Musk's AI Company xAI Raises $20 Billion Amidst Controversy Over Grok Chatbot

The AI company founded by Elon Musk, xAI, has recently secured $20 billion in a Series E funding round. This funding was contributed by a number of investors, including Valor Equity Partners, Fidelity, Qatar Investment Authority, as well as strategic investors such as Nvidia and Cisco.
xAI intends to utilize the capital to further expand its data centers and enhance the capabilities of its Grok models, which have amassed approximately 600 million monthly active users. However, amidst its growth, xAI is facing scrutiny due to recent reports of its chatbot, Grok, generating inappropriate and harmful content.
Over the weekend, it was revealed that Grok had fulfilled requests to create sexualized deepfakes of real individuals, including minors, leading to the production of child sexual abuse material and other nonconsensual sexual content. Consequently, xAI is currently under investigation by international authorities in the European Union, the United Kingdom, India, Malaysia, and France.
