Faber Launches €31M Fund to Support Iberian Peninsula's Deep Tech Startups
Faber, a Lisbon-based venture firm, has announced the launch of its third fund, Faber Tech Fund III, with a first close of €31 million. The fund, anchored by the European Investment Fund, aims to raise a total of €60 million and will focus on pre-seed and seed-stage startups in deep tech, AI, robotics, and biotech across Portugal, Spain, and the Netherlands.
Managing partner Alexandre Barbosa emphasized the fund's focus on deep tech, AI/ML, and data-related technologies, citing the flow of scientific and technical talent towards Southern Europe. The NATO Innovation Fund and Portugal’s Caixa Capital, along with family offices, have made significant contributions to the fund.
Faber's previous fund raised $24 million, and the firm also operates a “blue” fund, Faber Blue Pioneers, for investments in ocean technologies. Notable portfolio companies of Faber include Sword Health, Smartex, Mitiga, Luminate Medical, Unbabel, and MicroHarvest.
