French Defense Tech Company Harmattan AI Secures $200M Funding from Dassault Aviation

French defense technology company Harmattan AI has rapidly secured a $200 million Series B funding round from Dassault Aviation, propelling its valuation to $1.4 billion. Founded in 2024, Harmattan AI focuses on developing autonomy and mission-system software for defense aircraft, garnering recognition from the French and British ministries of defense. The funding and partnership with Dassault Aviation will enable Harmattan AI to collaborate on developing embedded AI capabilities for next-generation Rafales and drones, reinforcing air combat technology.
The company also plans to extend its product offering into new domains such as drone interception, electronic warfare, and ISR following a recent partnership with Ukrainian drone maker Skyeton. The strategic move has garnered praise from French president Emmanuel Macron, who lauded the development as important for France's strategic autonomy and technological superiority in defense. Notably, Harmattan AI aims to empower the armed forces of liberal democracies and their allies, signaling its intention to expand beyond France and Europe.
The company is set to exhibit at the World Defense Show in Riyadh and is expanding its U.S. team, indicating a global push for its innovative defense technology. The funding marks a significant milestone for Harmattan AI, reflecting its ambition to scale up manufacturing and further advance its mission to protect the values of the civilized world through advanced defense technology.
