Lightsynq Technologies Inc., a startup specializing in quantum interconnect technology for commercial use, has secured around $18 million in Series A funding. The investment round was spearheaded by Cerberus Ventures, the venture investing arm of Cerberus Capital Management, L.P. The funding round also saw the participation of Murata Electronics North America Inc., IAG Capital Partners, Safar Partners, QVT, Element Six, and In-Q-Tel (IQT).

Founded by former Harvard quantum networking experts and Amazon Web Services (AWS) Center for Quantum Networking leaders, Dr. Mihir Bhaskar, Dr. Bart Machielse, and Dr. David Levonian, Lightsynq is focused on creating cutting-edge optical quantum interconnects to enable hardware providers in linking quantum processors. The company aims to address the challenge of connecting individual quantum computers into a broader network, thereby overcoming the constraints of single system scaling.

The secured funds will be utilized for the development of Lightsynq’s quantum interconnect technology, which is based on color centers in diamond photonic devices and integrates a leading quantum networking platform with scalable photonic fabrication. This proprietary solution is expected to pave the way for foundry-scale production of quantum interconnects, thus enabling more usable qubits across networks and expediting wider industrial and commercial applications of quantum computing. The company's diamond-based quantum interconnects are poised to support hardware providers in developing optically-controlled quantum computers. Lightsynq’s mission aligns with the potential of quantum computing to deliver substantial benefits across various industries and use cases, ranging from healthcare and materials science to environmental engineering.

Lightsynq aims to become a leading quantum interconnect company, addressing key challenges related to qubit scaling and fostering widespread adoption of optical quantum interconnects. Cerberus, with approximately $66 billion in assets across credit, private equity, and real estate strategies, seeks to partner with entrepreneurs and companies building technologies to accelerate innovation in critical areas for both public and private sectors.
