Maritime Fusion Secures $4.5M Seed Round to Develop Fusion Power for Maritime and Off-Grid Applications

Maritime Fusion, led by ex-Tesla engineers, has closed a $4.5 million seed funding round to advance its fusion energy technology tailored for maritime and off-grid use. The company is developing a unique approach to fusion power, focusing on low-power-density tokamak reactors optimized for off-grid applications. This approach aims to address the challenges of power exhaust, nuclear activation, and maintenance operations, making it more feasible for commercial use.
Maritime Fusion is also working on its high-temperature superconducting (HTS) cable program, which has reached a significant milestone by carrying 5,000 amps at 77K in a liquid-nitrogen-cooled bench test. The company plans to apply this cable technology not only to fusion magnets but also to commercial power distribution sectors, starting with AI data centers. By leveraging HTS conductors, Maritime Fusion aims to bring about substantial cost savings and energy efficiency.
The company's strategic focus on maritime applications has garnered support from leading investors like Trucks VC, Paul Graham, Alumni Ventures, Y Combinator, and Aera VC. Maritime Fusion is actively hiring across various departments to support its mission of revolutionizing fusion power for maritime and off-grid industries.
