Mitsubishi Electric Corporation has disclosed its investment in Zenno Astronautics Ltd., a New Zealand-based startup focusing on superconducting technology for space applications. This marks the ninth investment by the ME Innovation Fund.

With the trend of smaller and more affordable satellites leading to a surge in launches, the significance of attitude control for their operation has grown. Zenno Astronautics specializes in an innovative satellite attitude control component utilizing superconducting technology to produce a magnetic field with minimal energy loss. This smaller, energy-efficient component has the potential to enhance attitude control for satellites, promising precise positioning of communication antennas, cameras, and sensors. By backing Zenno Astronautics, Mitsubishi Electric aims to bolster its competitiveness in the space sector and explore the application of the startup's technology in its own satellites.
