Nscale Raises $1.1 Billion in Series B Funding to Expand AI Data Centers Across Europe

Nscale, a British artificial intelligence infrastructure firm based in London, has secured $1.1 billion in a significant Series B funding round. The investment was led by Aker, with additional participation from firms including Nvidia, Nokia and Dell. The funding will support the expansion of AI data centers across Europe, addressing the growing demand for high-powered computing infrastructure required for training and running powerful AI models.
Nscale has emerged as a key player in Britain's aspiration to become a global AI powerhouse, collaborating with major companies like Microsoft, Nvidia, and OpenAI to build out AI computing infrastructure. Nscale is also working with OpenAI in the U.K. and Norway as part of the ChatGPT maker's Stargate investment project. The company aims to allocate a portion of the funding to enable the swift rollout of the Stargate data center projects in Europe.
With a commitment of $1 billion for the Norwegian project, Nscale targets to deploy 100,000 Nvidia GPUs at the site by 2027. In the U.K., the initial phase will accommodate 8,000 GPUs, with potential capacity expansion to around 31,000 GPUs over time.
