Spiro Medical Raises $67 Million for Development of Asthma Treatment Technology

Spiro Medical, a newly established company based in Irvine, California, has successfully secured a $67 million Series A equity financing. This funding round was led by Andera Partners, Omega Funds, and Sherpa Healthcare Partners, along with participation from HSG, Supernova Invest, Northern Light Venture Capital, and Hero Inc. Ltd UK. The company plans to utilize the proceeds to develop a specialized Pulmonary Neuromodulation System and conduct necessary clinical work for regulatory approval in the United States.
Spiro Medical's chairman, Raymond W. Cohen, expressed enthusiasm about the potential impact of their innovative approach on patients suffering from Asthma and other respiratory conditions. Additionally, the company welcomed new members to its board of directors from the leading venture capital firms involved in the financing. CEO Rinda Sama highlighted the unique opportunity presented by already issued patents and human data, emphasizing the team's confidence in building a world-class system.
The company, founded by a team including Stephen Pyles, M.D., and Kurt Gehlsen, M.D., Ph.D., aims to address the needs of millions of asthma patients through the development of a purpose-built Pulmonary Neuromodulation System.
