Sycamore Raises $65M Seed Round Led by Coatue and Lightspeed

Sycamore, a startup focusing on assisting enterprises in building, securing, and orchestrating AI agents, has secured a substantial seed funding of $65 million. The funding round was led by Coatue and Lightspeed, with notable participation from former OpenAI chief scientist Bob McGrew, Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan, Databricks CEO Ali Ghodsi, and other prominent angels.
What sets Sycamore apart is its seasoned founder, Sri Viswanath, who previously worked at Sun Microsystems, VMware, Groupon, and Atlassian. Viswanath's approach involves creating a comprehensive agentic orchestration layer that covers coding, backend infrastructure, frontends, and data integrations, rather than developing a single-purpose product.
Although Sycamore has attracted significant interest from major enterprise clients, it faces stiff competition from numerous startups, including Maisa AI, Isara, Airia, and Port. Additionally, established players like OpenAI and Anthropic, as well as big AI cloud providers such as Microsoft Azure and AWS, are also vying to dominate the enterprise agent platform space. Notable VC firms and angels that participated in Sycamore's funding round include Abstract Ventures, Dell Technologies Capital, 8VC, Fellows Fund, E14 Fund, Frederic Kerrest, Soham Majumdar, and Mike Knoop.
