Synthesia, London Startup Specializing in AI Avatar Technology, Raises $180M in Series D Funding

Synthesia, a London startup focusing on highly realistic AI avatar technology, has closed a funding round of $180 million, catapulting its valuation to $2.1 billion. The Series D funding was led by NEA, with participation from new investors WiL, Atlassian Ventures, and PSP Growth, as well as previous backers GV and MMC Ventures. The company plans to use the funding for hiring and expansion in Asia Pacific, in addition to further product development.

 

Synthesia's platform has gained popularity among enterprises, with 60,000 businesses and 1 million users leveraging the technology to create avatar-based videos for various purposes. The company has raised a total of $330 million to date and is focusing on enhancing avatar realism, interaction capabilities, and ease of content creation.

 

Notably, Synthesia has opted to build its technology in-house and collaborate with third-party providers for specific functionalities. The funding round comes amidst a surge in investment in AI startups, with Synthesia aiming to solidify its position as the go-to platform for enterprise video interactions.
