Topdog, a real money skill-gaming company, has secured $2.5 million in seed funding to accelerate the growth of its app and expand its range of multiplayer sports, card, and strategy games. The funding round was led by Boston Seed Capital and saw participation from The Raine Group, Bullpen Capital, Versus Ventures, Spoondrift Capital, and Permit Ventures. This latest round brings Topdog's total capital raised to $4.1 million, including previous funding of $1.6 million from Lightspeed Venture Partners.

Notably, the company has garnered support from prominent gaming entrepreneurs and industry leaders, such as FanDuel co-founder Nigel Eccles, Revenant VC Founder Ryan Moore, and gaming industry consultant Dustin Gouker. The funding will be utilized to drive user acquisition and introduce additional real-time multiplayer games centered around sports. Aman Agarwal, co-founder of Topdog, emphasized the company's mission to provide sports fans with engaging real-time multiplayer games, offering them the opportunity to compete directly against each other and stay connected with their favorite sports beyond live game hours.

Topdog's strategy-based games include titles like Basketball Hustle and 21 Hustle, designed to offer fans new avenues for competition outside traditional live sporting events. The company's approach prioritizes live interaction, strategy, and adaptation to opponents, presenting a vision for the future of real money skill gaming. In addressing the challenge of finding well-matched opponents in multiplayer gaming, Topdog has developed an infrastructure supporting synchronous gameplay, player matchmaking, liquidity, payments, fraud detection, and live operations.

The company's turn-by-turn gaming experiences aim to create faster, more interactive gameplay, steering away from dominant strategies or automated play determining outcomes. Topdog aims to establish itself as a platform where sports fans and gamers can engage in real-time multiplayer competition at their convenience.
