Applied Aerospace & Defense Acquires Ultracor, Strengthening Space and Defense Capabilities

Applied Aerospace & Defense, a leading manufacturer of mission-critical systems for space and defense, has completed the acquisition of Ultracor, a California-based supplier of specialized honeycomb core materials for complex bonded composites. The move aligns with Applied's strategy of vertical integration to enhance its supply chain and meet the growing demands of the space and defense market. Honeycomb core materials and bonded composites are essential in various applications such as satellites, spacecraft, aircraft, and high-performance antennas.
Ultracor, established in 1995, offers a range of proprietary honeycomb core composites using materials like carbon, quartz, Kevlar®, fiberglass, and its unique Ultraflex™ matrix. According to Kevin Bidlack, co-chief operating officer at Applied, the acquisition will optimize production processes for complex space and defense systems, including next-generation tiltrotor aircraft, collaborative combat aircraft, and navigation satellites. Ultracor's proximity to Applied's major manufacturing facility in Stockton, California, will facilitate streamlined operations, with Applied's nationwide infrastructure supporting large-scale programs and rapid prototype development.
Applied Aerospace & Defense is a key provider of advanced design, engineering, and manufacturing solutions for the space and defense industry, focusing on Space and Launch Systems, Defense Aviation and Airborne Systems, and C5ISR and Precision Strike Systems. The company's extensive manufacturing facilities enable it to support next-generation technology development and large-scale production programs.
