Asana Acquires Stack AI for $75 Million in AI-Native Workplace Platform Push

Asana has announced the acquisition of Stack AI for $75 million, as part of its strategy to establish itself as an AI-native workplace platform. The founders of Stack AI, Tony Rosinol and Bernard Aceituno, will be joining Asana as part of the acquisition. The move is part of Asana's broader AI pivot to position its platform as the 'operating system for human-agent teams'.

Stack AI, a part of Y Combinator’s Winter ’23 cohort, specializes in AI workflow-automation, designing agents to work within existing business systems and integrating data from platforms like Salesforce, Slack, and Gsuite. The company had raised nearly $20 million, with a significant portion coming from a recent $16 million Series A round led by Gradient, Epaklon Capital, Lobby VC, LifeX Ventures, and Vercel CEO Guillermo Rauch.

Asana, known for its work management system, has been releasing AI-oriented products, including the AI Studio agent builder and AI Teammates series. The acquisition is seen as a strategic move to deepen integration into corporate workflows and leverage training data.

Despite struggles in the public markets, Asana's leadership is optimistic about the potential of its new human-agent products, believing they will drive growth and innovation. As CEO Dan Rogers stated, 'This acquisition accelerates our roadmap and takes us into the next phase of human-agent work.
