Figma, a leading design platform, has recently acquired Bud, previously known as Orchids, to enhance its AI capabilities and bring the coding and prototyping layer closer to its canvas. Bud, a Y Combinator-backed startup, initially started as a vibe-coding platform and later transformed into an agent platform capable of accessing various services, browsing the web, and automating tasks by writing code.

As part of the acquisition, Figma plans to discontinue both Bud and Orchids by July 18, necessitating users to migrate their projects before the specified date. Despite previous concerns about security vulnerabilities associated with Orchids, Figma's intentions for leveraging the acquired team remain unspecified.

However, recent product launches suggest Figma's strategic focus on offering teams a comprehensive suite of tools for app development and prototyping, as evidenced by the introduction of Figma Make for web app creation and integrations with Codex, Claude Code, and the deployment of its own agents.
