Gridspertise Acquires Energyworx for Grid Modernization Solutions

Gridspertise, a technology company jointly controlled by Enel and CVC Capital Partners, has completed the acquisition of Energyworx, a cloud-based Energy Data Management solutions provider based in the Netherlands. The acquisition entails Gridspertise purchasing the entire share capital of Energyworx from its current shareholders, EDP Ventures, SET Ventures, and OWV Beheer B.V. This move is set to bolster Gridspertise's digital solutions portfolio and solidify its position as a key technology partner in the grid modernization sector.

CEO of Gridspertise, Robert Denda, expressed excitement about the acquisition, citing Energyworx's recognition as a visionary in the market by Gartner and its potential to enhance the business value of high-volume metering and sensor data. Marcel E. Smit, CEO of Energyworx, highlighted the opportunity to scale their MDM solutions globally and leverage Gridspertise's smart grid expertise and customer network. Frederico Gonçalves, Managing Director of EDP Ventures, commended Energyworx's achievements in meter data management and automated energy data processing, emphasizing the strategic value of the acquisition.

The acquisition aligns with Gridspertise's focus on advanced data processing, operational intelligence, and system optimization, furthering the company's transition to an as-a-Service business model following the 2023 acquisition of Aidon. Gridspertise Group, established as a carve-out of Enel's digital grid technologies, was founded in 2021 and became an independent company in 2022. In 2023, it acquired Aidon, consolidating its position in smart grids and smart metering. Energyworx, on the other hand, provides cloud-native time series platforms and solutions for Energy Data Management and Smart Grid Analytics utilized by utilities across Europe and the US. The acquisition marks a significant development for both companies and the grid modernization industry as a whole.
