HP has acquired the majority of assets of the hardware startup, Humane, for $116 million. Humane is discontinuing the sales of its AI Pins, notifying customers that the devices will stop functioning by the end of February 2025. The company plans to dissolve its customer support team for the AI Pin, offering refunds to customers who purchased the device within the last 90 days.

This acquisition marks the end of Humane's journey, which began with the launch of its AI Pin in April 2024. Despite raising over $230 million and positioning the AI Pin as a smartphone replacement, the device faced disappointment from early reviewers and customers.

HP will integrate Humane's engineers, product managers, and technology, including its CosmOS AI operating system, into a new group called HP IQ, focused on integrating AI across HP's products and services. Although Humane's acquisition has been finalized for $116 million, the startup had initially sought a much higher price in 2024.
