Kapital, a global AI-powered financial institution and one of Latin America’s largest B2B financial players, has agreed to acquire Woz, a San Francisco-based, YC-backed AI startup known for developing advanced coding agents for complex business tasks. The $30 million cash-and-stock deal will bring Woz’s engineering prowess and tooling into Kapital’s technology stack, combining Woz’s AI capabilities with Kapital’s extensive financial data and banking infrastructure to accelerate the next generation of enterprise finance solutions. Under the terms of the transaction, Woz’s co-founders and leadership will join Kapital: Ben Collins will become Head of AI and Brad Eckert will assume the role of Chief Technology Officer. The Woz engineering team will also transition to Kapital, with plans to grow the San Francisco team over the coming year.

Kapital’s leadership notes that the acquisition strengthens the company’s AI-native financial ecosystem and accelerates product development across its platforms. Kapital’s CEO and co-founder, René Saúl, emphasized that technology sits at the heart of Kapital’s mission and that pushing the boundaries of banking and financial services requires leadership in AI. The buyout is positioned as a natural step for Kapital as it scales its AI-enabled offerings to a broader global audience. Ben Collins, incoming Head of AI at Kapital and a Woz co-founder, highlighted the strategic fit: Kapital possesses a robust data backbone, scale, and a secure infrastructure, which, when paired with Woz’s patented AI tooling, could redefine how financial operations are automated and optimized at enterprise scale. Collins underscored that the collaboration will enable the development of next-generation AI models and enterprise-grade products built on top of Kapital’s data and platform capabilities. The acquisition aligns with Kapital’s recent financing activity.

In September, Kapital raised about $125 million in a funding round led by Tru Arrow Partners and Fasanara Capital, with additional participation from Cervin Ventures, Niya Partners, and Overlook Capital. The combined capital from the financing and the Woz acquisition is expected to accelerate product innovation and broaden Kapital’s geographic footprint across Mexico, the United States, and other strategic markets. Kapital’s platform currently powers a suite of AI-driven tools under the OctavIA umbrella, including live scoring, underwriting, risk management, and customer intelligence. The addition of Woz’s engineering excellence and AI capabilities is anticipated to extend OctavIA’s reach and introduce new, highly automated workflows for enterprise clients.
