Meta Acquires Conductor to Accelerate AI-Powered Coding with Multi-Agent Workspaces

Meta has completed a deal to acquire Conductor, a Paris- and U.S.-based AI coding startup that enables engineers to spin up software projects by routing work to multiple autonomous agents across parallel workspaces. The acquisition was first reported by Axios, and Conductor confirmed the news on its blog, where founder and CEO Charlie Holtz celebrated the move and teased ambitious plans for an updated interface set to debut in early next year. On social media, Holtz expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Meta’s latest AI leadership, including Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang and Nat Friedman, head of product for Meta’s Superintelligence Labs, praising the team for their talent density and pace of work.
Meta responded to inquiries about the deal with a brief confirmation and asked for privacy on deal specifics. Conductor, founded in 2024, rolled out its core product last summer. Its platform deploys agentic teams—whether in the cloud, on local systems, or directly on a user’s device—to let engineers break projects into modular components that can be developed in concert.
Notably, the platform’s agents are sourced from external labs such as Anthropic and OpenAI rather than built in-house. Holtz indicated that Conductor’s existing features will remain functional through the early part of next year, with the exception of its cloud service, which will be shut down on November 20 and will involve the removal of user cloud data. This aligns with Meta’s broader push into AI tools and services, an area where the company has been playing catch-up in recent months.
Earlier this year, Meta introduced Muse Code, its own coding agent, and the Muse family of agents has reported strong adoption, surpassing 10 million users. Meta has also pursued a series of AI-related acquisitions in the past year, including Moltbook, a platform known for its viral agent-based capabilities. The strategic move signals Meta’s continued intent to expand practical, scalable AI tooling for developers, while Conductor’s technology could accelerate the company’s ability to orchestrate complex software projects through coordinated multi-agent systems and streamlined collaboration across dispersed teams.
