Sherwin-Williams to Acquire BASF's Brazilian Architectural Paints Business for $1.15 Billion

Sherwin-Williams, a global leader in paint and coatings, has announced the acquisition of BASF's Brazilian architectural paints business, known as Suvinil, for $1.15 billion in an all-cash transaction. Suvinil is a prominent provider of architectural paints in Brazil, with sales of approximately $525 million in 2024. The business, which employs around 1,000 people and operates two production facilities in strategic locations, offers a wide range of innovative products under the Suvinil and Glasu! brand names to various customer segments.

The acquisition is expected to enhance Sherwin-Williams' position in the Latin American market and drive profitable growth in the region. The deal is anticipated to result in significant sales acceleration and cost synergies, leading to an expansion of Suvinil's EBITDA margin, excluding one-time integration expenses. The transaction is set to be financed through a combination of cash, existing facilities, and new debt. 

Sherwin-Williams aims to close the acquisition in the second half of 2025, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approval in Brazil. Upon completion, Suvinil will join the Sherwin-Williams Consumer Brands Group, focusing on delivering a seamless experience for customers and creating opportunities for employees.
