Walmart Completes Acquisition of Vizio to Strengthen Advertising Business

Walmart has successfully finalized its acquisition of Vizio, a well-known television manufacturer, with the goal of bolstering its advertising operations. The acquisition, which was first announced in February, has now been concluded after a few months, primarily due to regulatory waiting periods.
The $2.3 billion all-cash transaction marks a significant step for Walmart as it endeavors to establish a prominent position in connected TV advertising. By incorporating Vizio into its advertising platform, Walmart Connect, the retail giant is positioning itself to rival major players such as Amazon, Google, and Roku.
This strategic integration enables Walmart to merge its retail activities with television hardware, granting direct access to valuable customer data on viewing behaviors and shopping preferences. The collected data can be utilized to customize advertisements, enrich product offerings, and cultivate a personalized shopping experience. Consequently, Vizio televisions are expected to showcase a substantial array of advertisements for Walmart products. Moreover, Walmart will gain ownership of Vizio’s WatchFree+ streaming service.
