Leona Health Raises $14M to Revolutionize Doctors' Communication in Latin America

Caroline Merin, former general manager for Uber Eats and COO of Rappi, recognized the need for improved healthcare tech after witnessing doctors in Latin America relying on WhatsApp for patient communication. This realization led her to launch Leona Health, an AI-copilot integrated with doctors’ WhatsApp accounts.
The startup recently secured $14 million in seed funding led by Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from General Catalyst, Accel, and other prominent figures. Leona's service is now available to doctors in 14 Latin American countries across 22 medical specialties, aiming to streamline patient-doctor communication. The startup's mobile app categorizes and suggests responses to messages, enabling team members to reply on the doctor's behalf. Additionally, Leona plans to launch a fully autonomous agent for conversational scheduling and simple intake.
By prioritizing urgent health requests and managing routine inquiries, Leona aims to help doctors save two to three hours a day. While currently focused on Latin America, the company aims to expand globally, addressing the demand for doctor-patient communication through WhatsApp. With a team split between Mexico City and Silicon Valley, Leona Health is set to revolutionize healthcare communication with advanced AI technology.
